Alan Whicker appeared on This Morning for a chat with Phil and Fern about his life, work and experiences. Alan Whicker is celebrating 50 years in broadcasting, a remarkable achievement for the travel presenter. Alan Whicker’s Journey of a Lifetime is showing tonight on BBC, the first of a four part series charting his career. Tonight he visits Venice to chart his early career from soldier to Fleet Street journalist.

Alan Whicker’s most famous work is the TV show Whicker’s World, which ran from 1959 to 1988. In it, Alan Whicker travels to some of the most extraordinary and dangerous places on earth, interviewing some of the most extraordinary people on earth from billionaires to dictators.

Whicker’s World Volume 2 has been recently released onto DVD. It contains 10 quintessential shows from the ‘master travel journalist’.
