Walkie Talkies featured on The Gadget Show this week. Gadget Show presenter Suzie Perry described walkie talkies as the ‘best, and most gadgety way to stay in touch…if you’ve lost your mobile phone coverage.’ The Gadget Show presenters travelled to the Lake District in Cumbria to test two different kinds of walkie talkie technology, analogue and digital. Suzie and Jason had the latest in digital walkie technology, the icom F4029SDR. Jon Bentley and Dallas had an analogue walkie talkie, the Motorola TLKR T7.

Both walkie talkies claim to transmit clearly up to a distance of 10 km depending on the conditions, but conditions in the Lake District for the Gadget Show test were pretty bad. The clarity of both walkie talkies was pretty good, but the digital icom excelled when the signals were obstructed by trees etc. The icom also had a longer battery life, which meant that Suzie and Jason ran out winners in the Gadget Show challenge.
