Best Handheld Gaming Console/Games Console as seen on The Gadget Show
Computers & Software, Electronics, Gifts & Gadgets, The Gadget Show, Toys Add commentsOn last night’s episode of The Gadget Show, presenters Jason and Jon looked at the best handheld gaming devices on the market, and Jason gave them each a ‘G’ rating based on extensive testing for fun, screen size, innovation, portability etc. The three handhelds tested were the PSP 3000, the Nintendo DSi (released in April 2009) and the iPod Touch. Here were the results:
Sony PSP 3000 – 3 ‘G’s
Gadget Show presenter Jason only gave the Sony PSP 3000 a 3 out of 5 G rating because although it was a fantastic piece of gaming kit, he said it lacked the mass market appeal of the other 2 handheld gaming consoles. It does however have the largest screen and the best graphics of all the handheld consoles. It is basically a better Sony PS2 in your pocket.

Nintendo DSi – 4 ‘G’s
The Nintendo DSi picked up a 4 G rating. Not out until early April, the Nintendo DSi improves upon it’s already massively popular predecessor the Nintendo DS by being 12% thinner but with a bigger screen, and 2 cameras which Nintendo say will be incorporated into future games for the console using face recognition technology.

iPod Touch – 5 ‘G’s
The iPod touch received an impressive maximum score of 5 Gs from The Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury. It is not a dedicated gaming device of course – the iPod Touch is an MP3 player, portable web browser, email sending, video player, organiser, and gaming console. Jason said that using the iPod Touch for games was the most beautiful gaming experience he can remember having, in terms of the interface, the innovation, the range of software and the ease of downloading new games for the system straight from the Apple App Store.
