A pair of freeline skates, the latest craze to hit the UK, was the second gadget to be featured on this week’s Something for the Weekend. Freeline skates are designed for a new form of skating developed in the home of skateboarding, California.

As Tim Lovejoy tried to balance on the Freeline skates in the Something for the Weekend studio, gadget expert Seema explained more about them. The freeline skates combine elements of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding. It is basically a mini-skateboard for each foot, completely independent of the other, which makes freeline skating hard to master but more manoueverable than your traditional skateboard.

Tim Lovejoy usually has a go of outdoor gadgets like this in the Something for the Weekend car park, but he drew the line at freeline skates, describing them as ‘ridiculously hard’. Instead they showed a video of some freeline skating experts performing, and it was pretty impressive stuff. Tim said that you really have to dedicate a lot of time to master the freeline skates, something like 8 hours a day.

The freeline skates as seen on Something for the Weekend retail at around £85. You can buy a pair for that extreme sports person in your life (maybe it’s you!) by clicking here.
