Decade in the Sun by Stereophonics as seen on Something for the Weekend
Music & DVD, Something For The Weekend Add commentsWelsh band Stereophonics appeared on Something for the Weekend to promote their new greatest hits album ‘Decade in the Sun’. They are celebrating a decade together as a band, ten years that has seen them release 5 consecutive number 1 albums, 25 top 40 singles including 11 top 5 hits. A pretty impressive record according to Something for the Weekend presenter Tim Lovejoy.
Kelly and Rich from the Stereophonics were in the studio to talk about ‘Decade in the Sun’. When asked how they compiled the album, Kelly Jones revealed that they’d been asked for 5 or 6 years to do a ‘greatest hits’ album. He said that whilst there was a stigma attached to most greatest hits albums, because the Stereophonics had waited ten years it meant that they had a lot of material to choose from. Not every hit could be included on one disc, so there is a ‘box set’ available containing 40 of the best Stereophonics songs.
The Stereophonics are starting their tour in a few weeks’ time, opening in Glasgow, and finishing at the O2 Arena on 20th December.
Among the hardcore Stereophonics fans is one Wayne Rooney, who hired the band to play at his wedding to Colleen this year, and also has a tattoo of ‘Just Enough Education to Perform‘ on his arm which is the name of one of the Stereophonics’ albums. Wayne Rooney has according to Kelly Jones been coming to Stereophonics concerts since he was a kid.
Stereophonics greatest hits album Decase in the Sun contains their best known songs including: Dakota, Bartender and the Thief, Just Looking, Handbags and Gladrags, Mr Writer, Have a Nice Day and Local Boy in the Photograph.
