5. 2C Solar Light Cap

This was chosen for its multi-tasking ability. The 2C Solar Light Cap is a cap that’s also a torch that doesn’t need batteries - it runs using a solar panel at the top of the cap. Very useful for DIY, tradesmen etc. Get one here

4. Glow Graffiti

Glow Graffiti is a light spray which allows you to graffiti walls etc in the dark without actually leaving a trace. Illuminatingly urban - get some glow graffiti here

3. Glow Flow Shower Head Light

The Glow Flow shower head light illuminates your shower or bath and provides some really funky lighting for your bathroom. The Glow Flow LED is activated and deactivated by simply turning your shower on and off. Like the Light Cap it doesn’t need batteries - the LED lights are powered using the force of the water passing through the Glow Flow device. There is also a built in temperature sensor glowing red when the water is warm and blue when the water is cold. Get a Glow Flow Shower Head Light here

2. Amp Lamp

1. Flatlite

The Flatlite is the world’s longest and thinnest energy saving lightbulb. It uses phospher crystals for illumination rather than delicate filaments. It costs just a fraction of what a normal lightbulb costs to power and is only half a millimetre thick. Its flexibility is another plus point of the Flatlite. Savings Advice as seen on Working Lunch

Finance, Uncategorized, Working Lunch No Comments »

Working Lunch reported today that it’s a bad time for savers. No surprise here really, with the Bank of England continuing to lower its base rate of interest in an attempt to kick start the economy and allow people to borrow again. Savers are currently faced with the problem of a poor rate of interest on their money which is getting worse by the week, and with inflation higher than current interest rates, many savers are actually making a loss on the money they have in the bank. Not to mention the fact that the banks are hardly the safest places for a saver’s cash right now, being bailed out by the gobernment left right and centre.

David Braithwaite from Citrus Financial Management appeared on Working Lunch today to talk about the current savings account predicament. He urged savers to be ‘on the ball’ when it came to keeping an eye on savings rates, bonus rates and savings terms in order to get the very best return on savings in today’s difficult financial climate.

Cash ISAs were also mentioned. It’s important that as a saver you use up your cash ISA allowance if at all possible - it’s tax-free savings at a decent return compared to other investments you could make right now. The advice from David Braithwaite was to shop around for the best cash ISA and then fill your ISA if possible before April, when the tax year starts again.

First Utility and Wireless Electricity Monitor or Smart Meter as seen on The One Show

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

owl

A Wireless Electricity Monitor from First Utility was featured on The One Show this evening. Most people don’t know how much electricity they are using in their home from one moment to the next. With a Smart Meter, or Wireless Electricity Monitor, you can see exactly how much money your home is costing in electricity at any given moment. The wireless electricity monitor tells you exactly how much you’re spending per hour.

The couple interviewed on The One Show had a smart meter from First Utility fitted in their home and they found it a very useful way of saving money. Using First Utility as your supplier, your electricity usage is fed straight through to them online, meaning that there is no need for them to estimate your electricity usage.

According to The One Show presenter Dominic Littlewood, the big six energy companies and the Government are planning on everyone in Britain having a smart meter - but that would mean 47,000,000 smart meters to be replaced in 25,000,000 homes, which will take an epic 10 years to roll out.

Val and Alan, the couple interviewed on The One Show, have a wireless electricity monitor from First Utility. You can visit their website by clicking here. They confirmed that due to the smart meter they are indeed saving money.

One Show presenter Christine Bleakley said that the wireless electricity monitor was a great idea and that she wanted one. Dom said that of all the energy suppliers at the moment there is only one, First Utility, with available smart meters. Dom said the only downside is that you may become obsessed with how much electricity you are using and constantly check the smart meter to see how much money you may be spending.

There are two similar products on the market with a clear distinction, Dom explained: the smart meter and the smart display. The smart meter is supplied by First Utility as we’ve already mentioned. The smart display can be bought online and are priced between £40 and £50. The smart electricity display will display how much energy you’re using and will not feed the information back to your electricity supplier for online readings and charges.

Top 5 Video Games for Christmas as seen on The Gadget Show

The Gadget Show, Uncategorized, Video Games No Comments »

Jason Bradbury counted down The Gadget Show’s top 5 computer games for Christmas. Here are the games featured, from 5 to 1:

5) Lego Batman

Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury remarked that sometimes all you want is a simple game that’s quick to load and fun to play, and Lego Batman on the Nintendo DS fits the bill perfectly. Lego Batman is the latest in the successful Lego series of computer games which includes Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones. The aim is to make it through the 30 levels fighting your way through using classic Batman moves and gadgets faithfully recreated in Lego form, and collecting as many Lego bricks as you can along the way.

Lego Batman for the Nintendo DS is an easy to play, great fun and distracting game. Get it now in time for Christmas.

Lego Batman is also available on other formats

4) Spore

Spore for the PC is from the makers of The Sims. Gadget Show presenter Jason said it could possibly be the biggest game in the history of games. You start off as a single celled organism floating around in a big sea. By eating everything you come into contact with you grow and grow, evolving as you eat particular cells. You control the evolution of your character through four different stages, ending up in the conquest of space. Apparently the space element of Spore is almost a separate game in its own right, with 50,000 planets to explore in the Spore universe.

3) Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip

Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip is available for most formats including PS3 and XBox 360, but perhaps the most exciting version can be found on the Nintendo Wii, where the balance board from Wii Fit can be used as a virtual snowboard. Tilt backwards, forwards, left and right as you would on a normal snowboard - the controls for the Wii version of Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip are intuitive and lifelike. Only a couple of buttins on the Wii-mote are used to perform tricks - everything else is controlled by your own sense of balance on the board. The Gadget Show presenter Jason thought this game would also do well for Travel Agents by giving people the snowboarding bug.

2) Tom Clancy’s EndWar

Ton Clancy’s EndWar for XBox 360 and other formats came in second place in The Gadget Show’s Top 5 Computer Games for Christmas feature. It is an action strategy game in which you control a World War III army, but it’s how you control the army which makes the game unique. You may have already seen adverts on TV for Tom Clancy’s EndWar - using a headset you can control the game by only using your own voice. Ordering troops around couldn’t be easier than barking out orders from your sofa. The voice command system is amazingly responsive. But Tom Clancy’s EndWar isn’t a gimmick of a game - it is a solid strategy game with the added bonus of the voice controls.

1) Little Big Planet

Little Big Planet is a PS3 exclusive, meaning it will not appear on any other platform. It is number one in The Gadget Show feature of the Top 5 Video Games for Christmas. Jason Bradbury described Little Big Planet as ‘kind of odd…but in a really good way’. You begin by customising the look of your fabric character, or sackboy. There are 50 weird and wonderful levels in the form of a 2D/3D platformer. It is totally unique, and totally beautiful.

Using the level editor you can even create your own levels, then share them with the PS3 online community. Conversely you can play other peoples levels, meaning that the replayability factor of Little Big Planet for the PS3 is basically endless. Little Big Planet is receiving rave reviews for it’s gameplay, concept, creativity and its original and innovative graphics. The Gadget Show’s Suzi Perry said that Little Big Planet was the most gorgeous computer game she’d ever seen.
