The World at War is an acclaimed documentary series about World War 2. It is currently being shown daily on BBC 2. Narrated by legendary actor Laurence Olivier, the complete series of The World at War is now available in an 11-disc DVD box set. The World at War was first broadcast on TV in 1973. It is a unique, unparalleled and unrepeatable documentary series, as the narration is kept to a minimum and the series contains many interviews from people who were significantly involved in the conflict but who are not alive today. The footage from The World at War is enthralling and at times shocking. The World at War gives a clear view of the build up to war, the war as it progressed in different areas: Africa, the Battle of Britain, Dunkirk, bombing campaigns, D-Day, Pearl Harbour, the war in Japan, Stalingrad, and the Holocaust. It also looks at problems encountered after the war. There are no interviews with Russians on the film, as the Cold War was raging in 1972 and the Iron Curtain was firmly in place.
Today’s episode of The World at War focuses on how the Allies underestimated the tough task of attacking Germany via Italy. If you would like to own The World at War complete box set, it is available to buy online at a very good price.
