The Fijit Friends toy as seen on Something for the Weekend was tipped to be this Christmas’ craze by Tim Lovejoy. They are teddy bears for the modern age – interactive cute toys which respond to your voice and touch.

The Fijit Friends toy will dance, tell jokes and interact with your child. Fidget Friends is made of a squishy exterior which is perfect for kids, and allows them to move freely when dancing to whatever song they hear. When it’s bedtime your child can say night night to their Fijit Friend and they will glow like a nightlight before dropping off to sleep.

If you want one of these Fijit Friends in time for Christmas you’d better be quick, because this is a UK craze in the making, and this was reiterated by the Something for the Weekend gadget presenter. Firebox are offering free delivery on this product but you’ll have to be quick.

This week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets included a tablet/ereader hybrid, a health and fitness wristband and a digital smart pen for sketching.

First up was the Kobo Vox, described by the Something for the Weekend gadget girl as a cross between an e reader and a budget Android tablet. Unlike the highly rated Amazon Kindle it has a colour LED backlit display. It also has a touchscreen and audio capabilities – it will read the book to you if you would rather listen than read. The Kobo Vox runs Android 2.3 with web browsing and email capabilities, though you don’t get access to the full Android app store. It costs £189.99.

Next up was the Jawbone UP, a wristband which monitors you 24/7, even while you’re sleeping. The Jawbone UP tracks your daily activity and inspires you to live healthier. The Jawbone UP costs £80.

The final gadget on Something for the Weekend this week was the Wakom Inkling digital pen. Attach the sensor to any piece of paper, draw a picture and the Wakom Inkling reproduces that image straight onto the computer. The Wakom Inkling pen is clever enough to distinguish between light and heavy strokes of the pen.

This week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets included a 3D headset, a new Samsung tablet/phone hybrid and a piano teachin app for the iPad.

First up was the Sony 3D headset, or to give it it’s official name, the Sony Head Mounted Display (Sony HMD). The Sony HMZ T1 3D headset is being manufactured for the mass market due to popular demand for the product.

As you can see from the pic, you’re gonna look like a Star Trek character wearing the HMZ T1. This may or may not appeal to you, but what is bound to appeal is the HD and 3D experience you can get from this headset. 2 0.7 inch 720p OLED screens work together to give you an amazing 3D picture, and the speakers built into the Sony 3D headset produce virtual surround sound that is crisp and clear. This gadget will immerse you fully into whatever you choose to watch on it. It can be hooked up to a PS3 or a Bluray / DVD player allowing you to play games in 3D or watch movies on it. Using this 3D headset is like watching a film at the cinema.

The price of the Sony HMD HMZ T1 is around £800. When you consider that this is much cheaper than your average 3D TV, it doesn’t seem too pricey. It’s available to pre-order from the Sony website.

Next up was the Samsung Galaxy Note. Your initial reaction to the Note may be ‘Wow, that’s a giant smartphone’, but Samsung has positioned this device somewhere between a tablet and a smartphone, aiming to provide the best of both worlds. The Samsung Galaxy Note has a 5 inch screen, full phone functionality but the bigger screen allows for improved web browsing and media viewing. The Note comes with an S pen, a multifunctional stylus which enables you to do things like annotate documents, web pages or pictures. A digital scribe’s dream.

The final Something for the Weekend gadget was the Ion Piano Apprentice. This mini keyboard and app are designed to teach you how to play the piano. You download the Ion Piano Apprentice app onto your iPad from the App Store, then your iPad slots into the mini ion keyboard. The app and keyboard automatically sync, and the keys on the Ion Piano Apprentice keyboard light up when they need to be played. The iPad displays a video simultaneously telling you exactly what you need to do. Reginald D Hunter said it was kind of like Simon Says for a piano. At £80 it’s a great Christmas present for anyone who wants to learn how to play the piano.

The Clarisonic Mia is a sonic skin cleaning system. It works using sonic vibrations on the skin. Simply put your facial cleanser on, then move the Clarisonic Mia around your face. Tim Lovejoy had a go without facial cleanser, and the Clarisonic Mia was so good he couldn’t even feel it working. The Clarisonic Mia is apparently twice as effective at getting dirt off your face.

Next up on the Something for the Weekend Gadget round up was the Abba You Can Dance game. Available for the Nintendo Wii, this Abba dance game comes from the creators of Just Dance and Michael Jackson The Experience. It features 25 timeless Abba songs including Waterloo, Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia and Fernando.

The Abba You Can Dance game allows you to dance with up to 4 players or you can sing along with the Wii microphone. Get this game and you can perform a story and play a role in a mini musical arrangement of classic Abba songs. Abba are one of the best bands of all time, and this dance game features their very best hits. Their music stands the test of time and the Something for the Weekend presenters loved it.

The Powerspin is a new exercise tool designed to tone and firm your abs and your arms with just a few minutes’ use each day.
