Revlon Year Round Custom Creation Foundation as seen on LK Today

Health & Beauty, LK Today No Comments »

LK Today style guru Carole Machin told viewers that Revlon have brought out a year-round foundation. Called Revlon Custom Creation Foundation, it retails at around £13.99. During the year, skin tone changes colour, depending on level of tan etc, so girls have to buy different foundations to match their changing skin colour.

Not anymore, according to LK Today. Revlon Custom Creation Foundation is designed to be year round. It is six different shades in one tub. Using the dial at the top of the foundation packaging you can select the colour of your foundation based on whether it needs to be lighter or darker to match your skin tone.

Lorraine Kelly said that it was a clever idea and both her and Carole Machin were ‘loving’ the Revlon Custom Creation Foundation.

Clocky runaway alarm clock as seen on LK Today

Gifts & Gadgets, Home & Garden, LK Today No Comments »

Clocky was the brainwave of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) student Gauri Nanda. LK Today style expert Carole Machin demonstrated Clocky’s unique function - an alarm clock that rolls off your bedside table and finds a hiding place, forcing you to get up and find Clocky to turn it off.

LK Today style guru Carole said that whilst traditional alarm clocks are great, particularly in the winter months it’s oh so easy to simply press the snooze button and stay in bed. Clocky the runaway alarm clock aims to solve this problem.

Rather than just press snooze on an alarm clock, when Clocky goes off it rolls off your bedside table, onto the floor, and by the time you’ve found Clocky to turn it off, you’re already out of bed and wide awake - you might as well get up.

Clocky was demonstrated in the LK Today studio. Lorraine Kelly said it was really clever, and robust. Clocky’s special design means that it can fall quite a long way without being damaged, onto either carpet or floorboards.

‘Where can I buy a Clocky?’ you might ask. Clocky retails at around £30 and is available to buy from several retailers.

Seasonal Affective Disorder SAD Light as seen on LK Today

Health & Beauty, LK Today No Comments »

Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD lights were featured on today’s LK Today. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) affects a surprisingly large number of people in the UK, around 15% of the UK population.

On LK Today, Lorraine Kelly interviewed Nikki Durrant, a sufferer of SAD, who explained that the symptoms of SAD are numerous, including food cravings, irritability, lack of sleep, general depression and crying. For Nikki as with many other SAD sufferers, the condition begins around October time with summer gone and winter setting in with the dark mornings and nights, and dull weather.

Nikki sits in front of a SAD light to alleviate the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder. A SAD lamp can be very effective for people with the disorder, as LK Today Doctor Hilary Jones explained. He said that SAD is caused by lack of sunlight on the back of the eye, and this affects the neurotransmitters in the brain - the ones which keep up motivated, happy and alert.

Dr Hilary went on to say that people have SAD to varying degrees, but it can be very serious with some people feeling suicidal and depressed, tearful and ‘very down indeed’.

The first SAD light featured on LK Today was the Lumie Body Alarm Clock.

The light on top of the Lumie comes on gradually over a period of about half an hour, getting brighter and brighter until it wakes the SAD sufferer up naturally. It attempts to mimic being woken naturally by a summer’s dawn. The Lumie SAD bodyclock alarm is available to buy online.

The second SAD light featured was the Lumie Brightspark Light Therapy Lightbox. This lamp emits more light than the Lumie bodyclock alarm but it doesn’t have an alarm function. It has a strip design and should be used for 45 minutes a day - while you are having your breakfast, Dr Hilary suggested.

Best boots on the high street as seen on LK Today

LK Today No Comments »

Today’s LK Today featured a ‘best boots on the high street’ segment. With autumn and winter fast approaching a stylish pair of boots are essential if you are to be seen out and about. These boots are all available on the high street and most can be purchased online.

The first pair was a lace up boot from Dune priced at £85. The fashion stylist Brix Smith-Start described this boot as a power dressing boot and totally on trend. There is a built in platform so it’s comfortable. Available soon from the Dune website.

The next pair was a shoe boot modelled by Mel.

These are £80 from Faith, described by Brix as frilly and girly and reminded her of Marc Jacobs this season. The way the boots are designed you can see the legs going down into the boot which makes a lovely silhouette. You can buy a pair of these ‘STOGO’ boots from the Faith website by clicking here

Model Diana was wearing an interesting ankle boot from Gap, by Pierre Hardy. Pierre Hardy is one of the leading shoe and boot designers of the moment and apparently his shoes are so on trend that fashion editors are rushing out to buy them then selling them on ebay as collectibles. Diana said they were comfortable boots to wear. Click here to buy.

Amongst the other boots featured were a red pair for £195 from Duo.com, an over the knee (formerly ‘thigh high’) boot priced at £299 from Hobbs, and a pair of ‘biker’ style boots from M&S priced at £79.
