Beamz laser music system as seen on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Electronics, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Gifts & Gadgets, Music & DVD No Comments »

The Beamz laser musical instrument made another TV appearance recently, on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Jonathan Ross described Beamz as a musical instrument invention that anyone can play no matter what their standard of musical talent – even drummers could play Beamz he said.

Beamz has been described as a sort of ‘air-harp’, using laser beams as the strings. You simply break the various laser beams with your hand to make sounds. Jonathan Ross demonstrated Beamz on his show, on the ‘new-age’ music setting as he described, but there are many different types of music genre settings available with Beamz including hip-hop and rock ‘n roll. Jonathan tried the rock ‘n roll setting in an attempt to make guests U2 redundant.

Michael McIntyre Live and Laughing as seen on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Music & DVD No Comments »

michael-mcintyre

Comedian Michael McIntyre appeared as the first star guest on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross this week. Michael McIntyre is a comic star on the rise at the moment, with his comedy DVD Live and Laughing being a best-seller over Christmas. He has also appeared on Live at the Apollo, and has regular stints on TV comedy panel shows such as 8 out of 10 Cats and Mock the Week.

Jonathan Ross interviewed Michael McIntrye about his life, in particular his early life and the involvement of comedy legend Kenny Everett – Michael McIntrye’s dad wrote the Kenny Everett Show, and he has followed his father into comedy. Michael McIntyre went on to talk about his beautiful wife and kids, who he says are difficult to take on holiday because you take on each, then spend all day trying to keep them alive.

Michael McIntyre is the next big thing in British comedy. His hilarious observational humour appeals to a broad section of society. His appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross alongside Dev Patel and Morrisey is another clear sign he is a star in the making.

Tropic Thunder starring Tom Cruise as seen on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Music & DVD No Comments »

Tom Cruise took star billing on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross to mark the show’s return after Jonathan Ross’ leave of absence for the whole ‘Sachs-gate’ saga. Tom Cruise is probably the biggest film star in the world and one of the all time legends, starring in many blockbuster and classic movies such as Top Gun, Cocktail, War of the Worlds, the Mission Impossible trilogy, Eyes Wide Shut, Interview with a Vampire, Magnolia, Collateral, Jerry Maguire, The Last Samurai and Minority Report.

Cruise chatted to Jonathan Ross about his latest film Valkyrie, based on the true story of a plot to kill Hitler. He also talked about a hilarious cameo role in Tropic Thunder, a 2008 action comedy directed and produced by Ben Stiller. In Tropic Thunder Tom Cruise plays the foul-mouthed studio executive Les Grossman, complete with bald head and fat hands. It’s one of Tom’s first forays into comedy, and it’s a hilarious cameo.

Tropic Thunder is out now on DVD from Play.com.

Quantum of Solace starring Daniel Craig, as seen on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Music & DVD No Comments »

Quantum of Solace is the second Bond film to star Daniel Craig. Just before the postponement of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Daniel Craig appeared on the show to talk about Quantum of Solace, his role as Bond, and other general chit-chat such as his interest in watches – something Joanthan Ross capitalised on when he persuaded Daniel to auction his Deville Rattrapante watch for Children in Need.

Daniel Craig has been hailed by film critics as the best Bond since Sean Connery, bringing a far more gritty and realistic quality to the role compared to such predecessors as Piers Brosnan and Roger Moore. The scripting helps – Quantum of Solace dispenses with much of the gadgetry and one liners to provide a solidly entertaining action thriller.

Quantum of Solace is released on DVD on 23 March 2009 and is available from Play.com.

Tom Cruise as seen on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Other No Comments »

Tom Cruise was the star guest on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Tom Cruise revealed many interesting things about his life to Jonathan Ross, and also took some good natured ribbing about his famous ‘couch jumping’ incident on Oprah. Tom revealed that at film premieres, like his latest film Valkyrie, he stays outside on the red carpet for maybe an hour or two hours allowing as many of his fans as possible to meet him and talk to him. He is well known for calling relatives/friends of fans on their mobile phones to have a chat.

Tom Cruise also told Jonathan Ross of his tough upbringing with his mother taking him and his sisters away from his father at a young age. He said that him and his sisters are still very close knit. Tom Cruise has 3 children, and when Jonathan Ross asked him whether any more were on the way, Tom replied: ‘We’ll see’.

A Tom Cruise musical film may be in the pipeline after he revealed on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that he would like to star in a film musical one day. Jonathan Ross said that there aren’t many things Tom Cruise hasn’t mastered. Tom Cruise does most of his own stunts, such as extreme rock climbing in Mission Impossible II, car racing, horse riding and motor cycle riding amongst other dangerous stunts.

Tom Cruise’s new film is called Valkyrie, a historical suspense thriller from the makers of The Usual Suspects based on the true story of the plot by Claus von Stauffenberg to assassinate Hitler. Valkyrie also stars Bill Nighy and Kenneth Branagh.

stephen-fry-in-america

Stephen Fry was the second guest on this week’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Stephen Fry is a fountain of knowledge and he revealed to Jonathan Ross that he is currently expanding his knowledge of natural history by travelling to places such as Australia and New Zealand, filming a series about endangered species. Stephen told Jonathan Ross he had also been in Africa and the Amazon looking at other endangered species as part of the series.

Stephen Fry talked a great deal about the Kakapo, a bird whose name translates as ‘Owl Parrot’, which he recently spent time with in New Zealand. Stephen revealed a little known fact about New Zealand – that until quite recently it had never had mammals, cats, dogs etc.

Stephen Fry then talked to Jonathan Ross about Twitter. He explained that Twitter is micro-blogging – you have 140 characters including spaces and punctuation to post where you are and what you are doing. Stephen Fry has been using Twitter for a while now, keeping his ‘followers’ up to date with his adventures. Jonathan Ross also has a Twitter account.

The last DVD Stephen Fry made was Stephen Fry in America, a fascinating series in which he visits all 50 States in America. Stephen told Jonathan Ross that he met some marvellous people whilst making Stephen Fry in America, and that his general impression of Americans is that they are honourable, polite, kindly, well-intentioned and thoughtful, contrary to British public perception of Americans.

Stephen Fry in America is available either as a book or a DVD of the series. Both are fascinating and hugely entertaining.

My Booky Wook by Russell Brand as seen on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Books, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross 1 Comment »

Back in April, Russell Brand appeared on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross to talk about his new autobiography My Booky Wook. Yes, it was a while ago, but in light of the suspension of Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross from the BBC today, the clip above may be the last time you see these two comics on the BBC.

My Booky Wook is the story of Russell Brand’s life thus far. In it, Brand deals with his sex addiction, drug addiction, his upbringing and charts his rise to fame from lowly junkie to one of the UK’s foremost comedians. It is a very entertaining read from start to finish.

Brand will no doubt be regretting his lewd phonecalls to the answering machine of Fawlty Towers ‘Manuel’ Andrew Sachs with Jonathan Ross, who with Brand was suspended by the BBC today. Brand did make an apology, but it was light-hearted and not very sincere.

In the meantime as we wait to see what will happen to Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross, you can watch the clip above in which Russell chats to Jonathan about aspects of his life. Or you could buy My Booky Wook.

Why Do I Say These Things? by Jonathan Ross, as seen on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Books, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross No Comments »

Why do I say these things? is the unfortunate title of Jonathan Ross’ new book. ‘Unfortunate’ because recent events have seen Jonathan Ross suspended from the BBC along with Russell Brand for an insulting phone call made to Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs. Jonathan must be kicking himself for the outburst on Brand’s Radio 2 show.

As a result, this week’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross has been cancelled, rumoured to be replaced by Fawlty Towers in the Friday night schedule. Will we ever see Jonathan Ross on TV again? Probably. On the BBC again? Only time will tell, but in the meantime Jonathan Ross fans wanting a slice of his irreverent humour and larger than life character should look no further than ‘Why do I say these things?’

Omega DeVille Rattrapante watch as worn by Daniel Craig on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Fashion, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross No Comments »

An Omega DeVille Co-Axial Rattrapante watch similar to the one above was the centre of some controversy on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. The watch was worn by Bond actor Daniel Craig, and under some level of coercion from Jonathan Ross (Jonathan described it himself as ‘bullying’ on his Radio 2 show!) Daniel agreed to donate the watch to Children In Need. The actual watch will be auctioned in the BBC Children in Need online auction which starts on 10 November. For more information about this auction you can visit the Children in Need website here.

The Omega DeVille Rattrapante watch as worn by Quantum of Solace actor Daniel Craig on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross is available to buy from a few online watch stockists. Click here to buy one from The Watch Source.

If your budget will not stretch to Daniel Craig’s Omega Deville Rattrapante, Ernest Jones stock a wide range of watches including several Omega watches. Omega watches have been worn for years by James Bond’s past and present. Sadly none of them have rope-cutting, laser or ultra-magnetic properties – but then unless you’re a spy you’ll probably never need them!
