The Smart Globe was the second of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. It’s full name is the Oregon Scientific Smart Globe 3. It is essentially a fully interactive 3D globe complete with remote-control smart pen and pull out map. Use the pen to select a category, eg national anthems, then press the pen onto any country in the world to hear its national antthem. Other categories include amazing facts and language.

As well as being highly educational, the Smart Globe 3 is great fun, with over 30 games to play such as find the city. It is so clever that it even connects to a PC via USB port so you can download real time world news updates which are accesible by pressing the smart pen onto the relevant country.

This Oregon Scientific Smart Globe 3 would make an excellent educational and fun present for anyone young or old. It is available for around £100, £30 less than quoted on Something for the Weekend.

The Science Museum Balloon Copter was the second of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. This is quite simply a balloon powered helicopter which comes complete with balloon and rotor blades. Blow up the balloon, attach the copter blades and let go. It can go up to 50 metres and is a great stocking filler at around £7.

The Tightrope Terror was the last of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets, and the gadget presenter said that this toy had made the top 10 most wanted boys toys this Christmas. At around £20, it’s a great little stocking filler.

So what is Tightrope Terror? Essentially it’s a motorised toy car which you send racing down a tightrope extended to up to 10 ft. The aim of the game is to get the car across to the other end of the tightrope. The Tightrope Terror is guaranteed to be a huge seller this Xmas.

The Jedi Force Trainer, also known as the Uncle Milton Star Wars Force Trainer, was undoubtedly the coolest of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. This is really good fun, for Star Wars fans and non-Star Wars fans alike. Yoda talks you through the process - the aim of the game is to get the ball to spin and rise up through the tube using the power of concentration and mind control.

The player wears a headset which features 3 electrode sensors that convert brainwaves into electrical energy. Concentrating hard will make the ball spin and rise up as if you were Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi or Yoda yourself. The Star Wars Jedi Force Trainer costs around £60 and would make an excellent Christmas present for anyone remotely interested in Star Wars. Feel the force with this latest Star Wars gadget.

The Go Go Hamsters were the second of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. Seema Parmar explained that the Go Go Hamsters are available to buy individually or as a family. Press their noses or a button at the top of their head and the hamsters will make noises. They will also dart across the room.

The cool and funky Hexbugs were the last of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. Hexbugs are micro robotic toys. On the show, presenter Tim Lovejoy had a go with the Hexbug, the crab and the inchworm. All 3 hexbugs do different things in terms of their actions and how they are controlled.

The Hexbugs are around a tenner each. Each is supplied with an infrared remote control and contain touch and sound sensors. A great stocking filler, gift for a child or a even an office toy for grown-ups - the hexbugs are the latest craze to hit the UK.

Barbie and the Three Musketeers Miette interactive kitten as seen on Something for the Weekend

The cute and cuddly Miette was the second of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. Gadget guru Ella Williamson explained that the Miette was a toy product associated with a soon to be released film called Barbie and the Three Musketeers.

The Miette is basically an interactive kitten toy for kids which has sensors over its body which react to touch and stroking. A CD is available with Miette which contains 5 tracks specifically designed for Miette to interact with. Miette will dance and sing along with the music. A DVD will be released soon too.
