Mike Welch, founder of Blackcircles.com, an online discount tyre specialist, appeared on Working Lunch to talk about his tyres business. Blackcircles.com have been around for 7 or 8 years now. The idea behind Blackcircles.com is simple – it effectively allows customers to order new tyres online or through the call centre. You simply enter your tyre size, then receive a list of around 20,000 tyres specific to your tyre size. You then enter your postcode, choose one of Blackcircles.com franchised stores, choose the time and date you would like your new tyres fitted, pay online and then simply drop your car off on the day you have chosen.

The advantages of using Blackcircles.com: there are thousands of outlets all over the country, prices are up to 40% less than other tyre retailers and you can easily order online. You don’t fit the tyres yourself, the Blackcircles.com outlet does that for you.

Mike Welch said that Blackcircles.com is focused on maintaining the best price possible for tyres for their customers in these turbulent financial times.

Bluetooth Rear View Mirror Hands-Free Car Kit as seen on Something for the Weekend

The Bluetooth enabled Rear-View Mirror Hands-Free Car Kit was the second gadget seen on Something for the Weekend. Gadget guru Ella Williamson explained to Something for the Weekend presenter Tim Lovejoy that the bluetooth rearview mirror simply clips over your standard rearview mirror. With the bluetooth technology you can wirelessly connect your mobile phone to the device, so that when somebody calls you in the car you can answer it safely.

The number of the person who is calling you pops up on the bluetooth rearview mirror, and with its built in speaker you can have a safe hands free conversation. Another cool feature is a small headset inside the device which can be removed and used as a standard bluetooth headset when you’re on foot.

We think the model they featured on Something for the Weekend was the RXS BRM3003 Bluetooth Rear-View Mirror, but there are a few on the market.

The Big Book of Top Gear 2009

top gear The Big Book of Top Gear 2009

Last night Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May travelled to the US to take three new generation muscle cars, the Cadillac CTSV, the Corvette ZR1 and the Dodge Challenger, on an epic road trip from San Francisco to the heart of Utah.

Top Gear has been in the news recently for Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial lorry drivers/prostitutes comment. It is a run of the mill Clarkson-style joke, but in the wake of the whole Russell Brand & Jonathan Ross saga, some people have deemed the joke a ‘bannable’ offence. Fortunately, it looks like neither Top Gear nor Jeremy Clarkson are being banned any time soon, which must be a good thing for TV.

The Big Book of Top Gear is in the style of the show itself, containing fascinating features for petrol heads all over the UK. Richard Hammond’s love affair with a small Opel, an essential guide to James May-style sheds for the modern gentleman, arguments against public transport and caravans, and some of the most powerful cars ever to grace a track. There is also info that the show didn’t reveal about some of the most exciting Top Gear trips, from the Arctic Circle to Africa to the USA.

The Big Book of Top Gear is a must-have for any Top Gear fan, and is out now.

lewis hamilton Lewis Hamilton, 2008 F1 World Champion, as seen on Formula 1 (ITV)

Lewis Hamilton has just won the F1 World Championship in Interlagos, narrowly pipping Brazilian Felipe Massa to the post in the final race, and the final lap of the Formula 1 season.

Massa won the race and Ferrari thought they had the Championship in the bag – Hamilton had needed to finish at least fifth and with just 2 laps remaining, Sebastien Vettel overtook him taking fifth place for himself and leaving Lewis languishing and struggling in 6th spot. But, in one of the most dramatic Formula 1 finishes of all time, Lewis Hamilton managed to overtake Toyota driver Timo Glock to reclaim fifth and secure the World Championship, an amazing feat for a 22 year old in just his second year in Formula 1.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis was understandably ecstatic, as was Lewis’ father Anthony Hamilton. A British World Champion, the first since Damon Hill 12 years ago. The Brazilian Grand Prix also marked the end of 12 years of ITV Formula 1 coverage, with the sport switching to BBC next year.

There is a lot of Lewis Hamilton merchandise available to buy, including his book ‘Lewis Hamilton: My Story’ available in hardcover or paperback; a Zap Lewis Hamilton Fleece Blanket featuring Lewis driving the famous Maclaren car in his already famous yellow helmet; Lewis Hamilton Life in the Fast Lane DVD, an unofficial look at Lewis’ rapid rise to fame; Lewis Hamilton photo prints; Lewis Hamilton towel and a Lewis Hamilton biography by Ian Stafford entitled ‘New Kid on the Grid’.

After clinching the World Championship, Lewis Hamilton is now guaranteed world fame, and not just in the world of Formula One. With a girlfriend in the Pussycat Dolls, a Swiss mansion and now at the top of the most glamorous sport in the world, Lewis has well and truly arrived.

The Optibike didn’t actually win The Gadget Show transport race which marked the start of the new series on Five. The Optibike finished third, but it was undoubtedly one of the best transport gadgets on display.

Driven by The Gadget Show’s Dallas Campbell during the race, the Optibike performed very well. It is a high performance electric bike developed in Boulder Colorado, but now available to buy online from Team Hybrid in the UK. The Optibike can be driven just like a normal bike, but with the electric motor it can basically add 20mph to whatever speed the cyclist pedals at, if they wish.

The Optibike electric bike as seen on The Gadget Show is a great transport gadget, and is available to buy by clicking here.

Alternatively, Amazon are selling a whole range of electric bikes, which you can view by clicking here
