The iCade was recently featured on This Morning. It’s a real throwback to your youth – the retro arcade-style cabinet for your iPad features a satisfyingly chunky joystick and 8 full-sized buttons to remind you of the delerious gaming joy of days gone by. If you’re like us you spent hours on these arcade games – Space Invaders and Frogger to name a couple of classics, but the iCade supports hundreds of Ipad games.

Your iPad slots neatly into the iCade arcade cabinet casing in either portrait or landscape to suit the game you’re playing. Download the Atari Greatest Hits App and you can access 100 of your favourite retro gaming delights. Loads more are compatible too. This Mornign presenters Phil and Holly were impressed.

Something for the Weekend gadgets this week included a range of Christmas gifts for men which drew a varied response from Stephen Merchant and Tim Lovejoy. Here were the products featured on the show:

This retro film-based camera is a real blast from the past. Advertised as £70 on Something for the Weekend but we’ve found the Sprocket Rocket camera for just £48.

Conical Flask Oil and Vinegar Set, £19.99

One for the budding chefs who also have a passing interest in chemistry. This Conical Flask Oil and Vinegar set looks great and makes a great talking point at any dinner party. Stephen Merchant loved this Something for the Weeekend gadget.

iMusic Shower Gel MP3 Player, £29.99

This shower radio is shaped t look like a bottle of shower gel so it looks better in your shower. Advertised for £29.99 on Something for the Weekend but we’ve found it 30% cheaper

Vinyl Coasters (pack of 6), £15.99

Keeping with the retro cool theme, these vinyl coasters look great and do the job of protecting your tables from water marks.

Victorinox Swiss Army Knife, £283.50

An expensive Swiss Army Knife from Victorinox – this is due to the 32GB encrypted USB stick which makes you feel like a super spy. If you’re looking for a cheaper Swiss Army Knife this Christmas, try this one from Amazon for £15:

This week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets included a 3D headset, a new Samsung tablet/phone hybrid and a piano teachin app for the iPad.

First up was the Sony 3D headset, or to give it it’s official name, the Sony Head Mounted Display (Sony HMD). The Sony HMZ T1 3D headset is being manufactured for the mass market due to popular demand for the product.

As you can see from the pic, you’re gonna look like a Star Trek character wearing the HMZ T1. This may or may not appeal to you, but what is bound to appeal is the HD and 3D experience you can get from this headset. 2 0.7 inch 720p OLED screens work together to give you an amazing 3D picture, and the speakers built into the Sony 3D headset produce virtual surround sound that is crisp and clear. This gadget will immerse you fully into whatever you choose to watch on it. It can be hooked up to a PS3 or a Bluray / DVD player allowing you to play games in 3D or watch movies on it. Using this 3D headset is like watching a film at the cinema.

The price of the Sony HMD HMZ T1 is around £800. When you consider that this is much cheaper than your average 3D TV, it doesn’t seem too pricey. It’s available to pre-order from the Sony website.

Next up was the Samsung Galaxy Note. Your initial reaction to the Note may be ‘Wow, that’s a giant smartphone’, but Samsung has positioned this device somewhere between a tablet and a smartphone, aiming to provide the best of both worlds. The Samsung Galaxy Note has a 5 inch screen, full phone functionality but the bigger screen allows for improved web browsing and media viewing. The Note comes with an S pen, a multifunctional stylus which enables you to do things like annotate documents, web pages or pictures. A digital scribe’s dream.

The final Something for the Weekend gadget was the Ion Piano Apprentice. This mini keyboard and app are designed to teach you how to play the piano. You download the Ion Piano Apprentice app onto your iPad from the App Store, then your iPad slots into the mini ion keyboard. The app and keyboard automatically sync, and the keys on the Ion Piano Apprentice keyboard light up when they need to be played. The iPad displays a video simultaneously telling you exactly what you need to do. Reginald D Hunter said it was kind of like Simon Says for a piano. At £80 it’s a great Christmas present for anyone who wants to learn how to play the piano.

This RC Rat featured on The Gadget Show recently as part of their Top 5 Pranks feature. As Jason Bradbury and Paul Zenon proved, it can give an unwitting victim one hell of a shock! They used the RC Rat to bump into the leg of a member of the public, and screams ensued until she realised it was a harmless toy.

The Clarisonic Mia is a sonic skin cleaning system. It works using sonic vibrations on the skin. Simply put your facial cleanser on, then move the Clarisonic Mia around your face. Available for the Nintendo Wii, this Abba dance game comes from the creators of Just Dance and Michael Jackson The Experience. Abba are one of the best bands of all time, and this dance game features their very best hits. Their music stands the test of time and the Something for the Weekend presenters loved it.

The All I Want For Christmas Advent Calendar was the first of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets round up, which had a decidedly Christmassy feel.
