My Beating Heart was the first of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. Seema Parmar explained that My Beating Heart was the only cushion with its own beating heartbeat. Cuddling this cushion allows you to relax and unwind. Tim Lovejoy suggested that My Beating Heart may be good for putting children to bed too.

The Smart Globe was the second of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. It’s full name is the Oregon Scientific Smart Globe 3. It is essentially a fully interactive 3D globe complete with remote-control smart pen and pull out map. Use the pen to select a category, eg national anthems, then press the pen onto any country in the world to hear its national antthem. Other categories include amazing facts and language.

As well as being highly educational, the Smart Globe 3 is great fun, with over 30 games to play such as find the city. It is so clever that it even connects to a PC via USB port so you can download real time world news updates which are accesible by pressing the smart pen onto the relevant country.

This Oregon Scientific Smart Globe 3 would make an excellent educational and fun present for anyone young or old. It is available for around £100, £30 less than quoted on Something for the Weekend.

Metal Detector Flip Flops were the first of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. Also known as Treasure Seeker’s Shoes, these flip flops act as a metal detector with the aid of a small unit you strap to one of your legs. They look like normal flip flops, but when activated these metal detector flip flops will beep or vibrate if you step over something metal, when walking on the beach, for instance. Who knows, a stroll along the beach could lead to you uncovering treasure and becoming an instant millionaire - making these metal detector flip flops an absolute bargain at around £40.

No real surprise that the Apple iPhone was named Gadget of the Decade on last night’s The Gadget Show. The iPhone has been a massive success across the world and is a seriously advanced bit of kit. The tactile, innovative touchscreen, the millions of downloadable apps from the App Store, the built in GPS, internet browser, email, organiser, ipod, picture viewer, camera, video player, video camera - did we mention it also functions as a phone. The iPhone was championed by most of The Gadget Show presenters and it managed to beat off competition from Sky Plus, the Nintendo Wii, Adobe Photoshop and other great gadgets that have made this past decade great in terms of tech.

The Science Museum Balloon Copter was the second of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. This is quite simply a balloon powered helicopter which comes complete with balloon and rotor blades. Blow up the balloon, attach the copter blades and let go. It can go up to 50 metres and is a great stocking filler at around £7.

Tony Hawk: Ride was the last of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets. Gadget expert Ella Williamson explained that it is available for Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3. It’s essentially your typical Tony Hawk skateboarding game with a unique twist - it comes bundled with a fantastic skateboard controller which you stand on, and your movements on the board translate to your movements, tricks, turns etc in the game.

The Yantra Mat was the  second of this week’s Something for the Weekend Gadgets. It is an acupressure mat from Sweden, using touch pressure to ease stress. Similar to acupuncture but without the needles - this acupressure mat does not penetrate your skin. You can lie on it, kneel on it, stand on it. It has over 200 flowers each of which has 42 pressure points to relieve your tension. It costs £40 and you can get one from Amazon.

The Tightrope Terror was the last of this week’s Something for the Weekend gadgets, and the gadget presenter said that this toy had made the top 10 most wanted boys toys this Christmas. At around £20, it’s a great little stocking filler.

So what is Tightrope Terror? Essentially it’s a motorised toy car which you send racing down a tightrope extended to up to 10 ft. The aim of the game is to get the car across to the other end of the tightrope. The Tightrope Terror is guaranteed to be a huge seller this Xmas.
