Top 5 Tech Tips as seen on The Gadget Show

Computers & Software, Electronics, Gifts & Gadgets, The Gadget Show No Comments »

On this week’s Gadget Show Jason’s top 5 dealt with a number of ways you could enhance, advance and improve your tech life. Here were his top five tech tips:

5. Q-Waves Wireless USB AV Kit

qwaves

The Q-Waves Wireless USB AV Kit costs around £85 and it sends a video stream of whatever your laptop or PC is showing you to your TV, essentially turning your TV into a wireless monitor. You can use it for watching things like Sky Player, BBC iPlayer and other media on your TV in high quality.

4. Vitamin D Video

This is free software which essentially allows you to turn your webcam into a home security system. It recognises when people come in or go out of a door for example, and emails you when they do.

3. Mobile Air Mouse Pro

This nifty little app for your iPhone or iPod Touch essentially turns your iPod into an advanced trackpad, or wireless mouse with which you can control your PC or Mac.

2. Earphone Cable Fold

Wrap the cord around your hand leaving the jack hanging a little. Pinch the middle to form a bow and wrap the remaining cord around, pushing the jack through the middle and pulling it tight. Hey Presto – no more annoyingly tangled earphones.

1. Tinfoil Wi-Fi Booster

Another free tip from Jason. There is nothing more annoying than losing your wi-fi signal halfway through an online gaming session, but you can use this tip to solve the problem. Get some tinfoil, Make it rectangular and place it next to your router, so that it can reflect signal from your wireless router towards the room with your wireless laptop, gaming console etc. You will find that the signal is automatically boosted. A great tip, and it’s free!

Cameras as seen on The Gadget Show

Electronics, Gifts & Gadgets, The Gadget Show No Comments »

casio-exilim

John Bentley looked at cameras and camera gadgets on this week’s The Gadget Show as he went up against professional phtographer James Nader in a digital camera challenge.

For the action shot Jon used the Casio Exilim EX-FH20 which can shoot an astonishing 40 high resolution 7 megapixel images per second – perfect for action shots.

For the landscape shot the Gadget Show presenter tried the Fuji FinePix Real 3D W1. This is a true 3D digital camera, effectively the Fuji is 2 10 megapixel cameras working together. The lenses capture 2 simultaneous images, and the 3D camera then combines these images to produce a 3D camera or stereoscopic image in exactly the same way as human eyes do. The 2.8 inch screen on the Fuji 3D camera lets you view the pictures you take in full 3D.

Finally, for the water shot, Jon used the Panasonic Lumix FT1. The Panasonic looks like any normal digital camera, but it has a hidden trick up its sleeve. Thanks to the extra rubber sealing and a tough layer of glass over the lens of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1, this 12 megapixel digital camera is waterproof to a depth of 3 metres. The 4.6 times optical zoom incorporates a wide angle.
